Adamawa votes N420m for 10 commuter buses

The Adamawa State Executive Council, SEC, has approved over N420 million to procure ten 72-seater blue bird school shuttle buses as palliative measures for students.

The buses are to be deployed on school routes across the state, particularly the capital Yola where most schools are concentrated.

The State Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Mrs Neido Geoffrey Kafulto, told newsmen shortly after the council meeting in Yola on Wednesday that the approval by the council for the emergency procurement of the buses was to cushion the effect of subsidy removal on students.

She added that the buses would be procured by Vokna Investment and Real Estate Abuja and they are expected to be supplied within seven working days.

She said the decision was borne out of the successes recorded by the initial roll out of 10 luxury buses which have been plying all major roads mostly around the three metropolitan local government areas of Yola Notth, Yola South and Girei.

DAILY POST reports that Adamawa State had earlier in August this year procured 10 luxury buses in the start of its mass transport scheme as its palliative after the withdrawal of petroleum subsidy earlier by the Federal Government.

These initial buses have been plying the long routes within the metropolitan LGAs at the flat fare of N100 per route for which Keke NAPEP charges between N200 and N300.
