As part of its commitment to continually empower the youth through entrepreneurial initiatives, Access Bank has rewarded over 100 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members.
The beneficiaries, who are members of the Batch A, Stream One and Batch A Stream Two corps members across Nigeria, received various cash grants.
A total of N30.5million was given out to winning entrepreneurial ideas in Abuja, Imo, Kebbi, Abia, Adamawa, Jos, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Ogun and Cross River States. The star winners received N1 million each.
Bayo Famoroti, Banch Manager, Access Bank, Wuse Zone 4, who spoke at the Accessprenuer programme in Abuja, explained that the aim is to build the youth, the economy, and to resolve the funding challengs which many startups face.
“We understand the role young people play in the community and are committed to supporting their aspirations. Research showed that finance is why businesses, especially startups, fail. We decided to solve this by assisting young entrepreneurs with finance through Access Bank’s all-for-one scheme,” he noted.
Tosin Ojo, a crocheter in the Abuja camp who won the competition with N1 million and also won the social media contest with N50,000, expressed appreciation to Access Bank.
“I’m really grateful. I don’t know how I can fully thank Access Bank for this great opportunity and I say thank you very much once again,” Ojo said.
Another N1 million star prize winner in Adamawa, Johnson, who wants to go into poultry business, thanked Access Bank for motivating him with a seed capital to realize his dream and have a brighter future.
The bank also rewarded other corps members across the country in the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 10th positions with N400,000, N250,000, N150,000, and N100,000, respectively.
The Accessprenuer scheme has over the years empowered thousands of corps members, granting vitality to kickstart their businesses and expand those that have already begun operations.
So far, the Accessprenuer competition has impacted more than 600 corps members with over N250 million in seed capital. There is also a Facebook community where Accessprenuer winners interact with and inspire other youths. The community has about 5,000 members.
