Abia State sets aside Dec 16 for environmental sanitation exercise

The Abia State Government has announced Saturday, December 16, 2023, as a day for environmental sanitation exercise across the state.

This comes ahead of this year’s celebration of Christmas and the New Year by the residents of the state.

DAILY POST recalls that the government of Abia State had scheduled the last Saturday of every month for environmental sanitation exercise.

However, in a press release jointly signed by the Abia State Commissioner of Environment, Philemon Asonye Ogbonna, and the chairman of the Abia State House of Assembly Committee on Environment and Urban Renewal, Kalu Mba Nwoke, the government solicited the continued cooperation of all Abia residents and urged them to turn out to participate in this month’s clean-up exercise on December 16.

The statement partly reads: “One remarkable thing which distinguishes this month’s activity is that it is taking place at a period of great festivities in Abia State.

“For this reason, the Abia State Ministry of Environment will conduct this month’s clean-up exercise a week to the Christmas Day.

“It will be stating the obvious that efforts must be sustained to consolidate on the gains so far attained in the environmental renewal programme of the state government.”
