Abia installs tracking machines as fake, expired vehicle particulars increase

The Executive Chairman of the Abia State Internal Revenue Service, Professor Udochukwu Ogbonna, has announced that relevant and modern facilities have been installed in the state to seamlessly track motorists operating with fake and expired vehicle particulars.

The Executive Chairman made the statement while monitoring vehicle road checks mounted in Umuahia.

Ogbonna, who frowned at the massive rate of expired and fake vehicle particulars observed during the enforcement exercise, added that it would no longer be business as usual going forward.

According to the AIRS Chairman, there are no more hiding places for those issuing fake papers. He declared that the state government is ready to identify and prosecute those engaging in the illegal act of issuing fake papers to motorists.

He advised vehicle owners to obtain their vehicle particulars only from the Abia State Board of Internal Revenue vehicle licensing offices and to avoid patronising revenue quacks.

Ogbonna stated that the enforcement exercise would be a continuous process within Umuahia, Aba, and other parts of the state to monitor all motorists whose vehicle papers have expired or those still using fake vehicle papers.

The AIRS Chairman further advised officials who served in the past administration but are still using government number plates to remove them or face embarrassment.

He urged the general public to consistently pay their taxes to enable the state government to contribute to the development of the state.

During the enforcement exercise, some defaulters had their vehicles impounded at the Abia State Board of Internal Revenue Zonal office at Bende road, where they were required to pay the charges due to the government before their vehicles were released.
