Abia government sacks executives of Ubakala Butchers Association

The Abia State Ministry of Agriculture has ordered the immediate dissolution of Ubakala Butchers Association executives.

A press release signed by the Commissioner for Agriculture, Cliff Agbaeze, said that the decision was made after careful consideration of the current circumstances at the Ubakala abattoir, popularly known as Slaughter.

He noted that the state government wants to restore order and ensure the smooth functioning of Slaughter.

According to the statement, the dissolution includes the termination of all executive roles, duties, and responsibilities previously held by members of the association.

The statement adds that a caretaker committee will be set up to manage the affairs of the market until new elections are held and a new executive committee is constituted.

“This decision prioritises the welfare of the butchers, focusing on accountability and market development,” Agbaeze said.

The state government advised all members of the Umuahia Butchers Association to comply and to ensure that peace is maintained in the market.

DAILY POST recalls that butchers from Ubakala abattoir had in February staged a peaceful where they alleged that some individuals from the host community were planning to evict them from Ubakala.

Some members of the host community equally organised a protest accusing butchers of alleged assault and other ugly activities.
