Governors of the states in the South-East have declared their stance on the new peace project in the region.
The governors are of the opinion that peace is cardinal to the economic development and progress of the South-East.
The Peace In South-East Project, PISE-P, was unveiled in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State on Friday.
The project canvasses for a non-kinetic means of resolving the security challenges in the region.
Vice President Kashim Shettima represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the unveiling.
Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, who is the Chairman of the South-East Governors Forum, said the govrnors were all for peace in the region.
“The events of 2021 till date have created untold insecurity in the region. It’s worrisome to all of us, those living at home and diaspora, and our brothers and sisters from all zones in the country,” he said.
“The governors of the South-East region working with Ohanaeze held a security summit in Owerri where it was resolved to do everything possible to bring peace to the South-East and stem the prevalence of insecurity in the region.
“Anything that will bring peace to South-East is welcomed.”
