Benue: NEMA distributes relief materials to victims of farmers, herders’ violence

The North Central Zonal Headquarters of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, and the Benue State Government, on Friday, inaugurated the distribution of relief materials to victims of farmers/herders’ violence and flood disaster in the state.

The relief materials were distributed to victims at North Bank, Baka IDP camp, in Makurdi Local Government Area of the State.

NEMA, North Central Zonal Coordinator, Mr Eugene Louis Nyelong, who performed the exercise, said the items were approved after a joint assessment with the Benue State Emergency Management Agency, BSEMA.

He commended the unwavering efforts of both Governor Alia and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Sen. George Akume in securing the prompt release of the relief materials to assist Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs.

Nyelong said their good gesture had gone a long way in mitigating the untold difficulty in the camps and adverse effects of flood on victims.

Executive Secretary of SEMA, Mr James Iorpuu, who received the relief items on behalf of the state government, appreciated the federal government for the support, noting that the relief items will go a long way in alleviating the sufferings of the IDPs and flood victims.

Mr Iorpuu, who was represented by the Head of Administration and Supply, Mr Donald Komgbenda, urged the displaced people to remain supportive of Governor Alia’s administration.
