The Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Ishaq Oloyede has stated that the examination body increased the registration form for UTME because of increase in cost of running Computer Based Test (CBT) centers.
Oloyede disclosed this on Wednesday during an appearance before a committee of the House of Representatives.
It would be recalled that JAMB recently announced the increment of the JAMB fee for the 2024 examination to N7,700 from the initial N5.700.
Oloyede said most of the CBT owners are complaining over the cost of running the centers, hence, JAMB decided to increase the fees to ameliorate the challenges.
He said JAMB is not allowing the CBT owners to charge the students to prevent exploitation. He added that JAMB collects the fees and passes it to operators.
“But given the cost of diesel, we only allowed them to increase it —we are collecting from the students and passing to the centers,” he said.
“Why are we collecting for them? If we leave them to do it, they would exploit the students. They would be collecting N4,000-N5,000 per student. Pay to us, we will transfer to you weekly.”
