‘I’m not crying’ — Leverkusen boss says club can cope without Nigerian duo during AFCON

Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso says the side is well equipped to cope with the absence of Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Boniface and Tella are expected to be included in Nigeria’s squad for the 2023 AFCON finals.

The duo could be away for one month should the Super Eagles make it all the way to the final of the biennial competition.

Leverkusen will also be without Burkina Faso’s Edmond Tapsoba, Ivory Coast’s Amine Adli, and Morocco’s Odilon Kossounou during the competition.

“That’s the game calendar,” the former Real Madrid star said, per Kicker.

“We are losing some players, but we have seen that all players can play. We will decide so that we have a competitive team.

“I’m not crying. I’m not a victim. We have enough players.”

Cote d’Ivoire will host the AFCON between January and February .
