‘Pay N35,000 wage award or face our wrath’ – TUC warns FG

The Trade Union Congress, TUC, has warned the federal government to pay all federal civil servants their N35,000 wage.

The President of TUC, Festus Osifo, gave the warning on Tuesday in Abuja at an ongoing press briefing.

The press briefing came shortly after the congress’ emergency National Executive Council meeting on Tuesday.

DAILY POST recalls that the wage award was announced by the federal government after a meeting it held with the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and TUC following the removal of fuel subsidy.

The Congress specifically said it heard it on good authority that workers had only received the one month meant for September and that only a few workers had been paid the second time.

Osifo also warned all 36 state governments across the country and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, to “tighten” their belts in ameliorating the plight of workers occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy to avoid a fresh crisis in the country.

“We want the government to tighten their belts, government at all levels—the federal government, the state, and local governments—because the situation where they are asking Nigerians to keep tightening their belts while they (government officials) are living in affluence is not acceptable,” he said.
