Police arrest man for killing mother, sister in Enugu

The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a young man who allegedly murdered his mother, Mrs Charity Orji, and his sister, Miss Ukamaka Orji, and buried them in a shallow grave in their garden.

The suspect, Somadina Orji of Igboariam in Anambra State, was said to have perpetrated the crime on Monday, December 4, 2023, at Umuagu Inyi in the Oji River Local Government Area.

According to multiple accounts and video footage of the occurrence, the late Charity, who was born in Inyi but married in Igboariam, Anambra State, had been living in her family home with her children for many years.

The report said that her son, who allegedly deals in narcotics and has been feuding with her for some time over his behaviour, chose to murder her.

However, Mr Ben Obi, a community leader in Inyi, who spoke to several journalists, indicated that the difficulties began weeks ago when the suspect had a conflict with the suspect’s younger brother.

DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the Command’s spokesperson, confirmed the incident on Sunday, saying the suspect had been apprehended and an investigation was still ongoing.

Ndukwe stated that he would be arraigned in court as soon as the investigation was completed.

“The suspect has been arrested, and the case is under investigation. The suspect would be prosecuted once investigations are concluded,” he said.
