Ogun State government has declared that there would be no automatic spot for players in the Gateway United’s team for the 2024-25 Nigeria National League season.
The state commissioner for Sports Development, Wasiu Isiaka disclosed this in an address to team in Abeokuta.
Isiaka challenged the newly appointed technical crew of Gateway United to elevate the club to new height by harnessing the state’s rich football talent pool.
He emphasized the need for a transformative approach and urged the technical crew led by Festus Allen to turn things around.
“We’re not just making a change; we’re making history,” Hon Isiaka stated while receiving a 28-man list of players selected from across the state’s four zones.
“Mediocrity is no longer acceptable. Gateway United must compete at the highest level. The time for change is now.
“This initiative isn’t just about football; it’s about unlocking the extraordinary talents within our state. The government’s gesture is a beacon of hope. Muda Lawal rose to greatness through this sport – why not you? You have the potential. Let it be known that there will be no automatic spots in this team.”
Gateway United will kick-start their 2024/25 NNL campaign with a clash against Godswill Akpabio FC on Saturday, November 30.
