‘I was fed up with football’ – Ex-Man United star, Vermijl reveals why he turned postman

Former Manchester United defender, Marnick Vermijl, has said that he was fed up with professional football.

The former Red Devils defender said that for this reason, he started working as a postman.

Vermijl revealed that he developed an interest in becoming a postman because football had become tiresome.

Vermijl, a product of Red Devils academy, played for the club’s U-18 before being promoted to the senior team in 2012.

He ended up playing just two games for Manchester United first team before he was sold to Sheffield Wednesday in 2015.

He now plays for Belgian side, Thes Sport, a club he joined in 2020.

According to Manchester Evening News, Vermijl said he now spends his time between playing for Thes Sport and being a postman.

“I was fed up with professional football,” he said, adding that depending on the managers and coaches was also a big factor.

“As a postman I have to get up at four o’clock, but now I am home around noon and can pick up the children from school every day. That is a luxury.”
