EPL: He should be dissapointed – Given advises Liverpool star to leave club after Slot’s comment

Former Ireland goalkeeper, Shay Given has advised Caoimhin Kelleher to leave Liverpool next summer following manager, Arne Slot’s recent comment.

Slot had clarified that Alisson Becker will remain the first-choice for Liverpool when he returns from his injury layoff.

However, Given was not impressed with Slot’s comment, insisting that Kelleher would have been disappointed with the Reds boss.

Kelleher has managed the posts for Liverpool in Becker’s absence and has done a good job.

Speaking about Kelleher, Given said the 25-year-old needs to be playing regularly.

“Caoimhin played 26 games last season and in that time he showed that he has the talent to be a No.1 in the Premier League,” Given said (via Liverpool Echo).

“But he turns 26 later this month and, if I am brutally honest, he needs to get away from Liverpool if he wants that to happen.

“Kelleher would have been disappointed to hear Slot state publicly that Alisson will always be his first-choice keeper because everyone wants to go into training every day with the belief that they are fighting for a place in the team.”
