Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria, (KACRAN), has condemned the way Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES), a World Bank assisted project, is being run in Northern States.
KACRAN’S National President, Khalil Mohd Bello raised the concern in a statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday claiming that the project was largely hijacked by implementers who prioritized their selfish interests.
“Another issue of concern is how certain officials, entrusted by their states, have ignored pastoralist stakeholders when selecting beneficiaries.
“They invite firms to train women with no ties to the dairy industry and involve the media to falsely claim the program’s success”, Bello alleged.
He urged the World Bank and the Northern Governors to comprehensively review L-PRES operations in Nigeria, and predicted that if the program continues to be managed manipulatively, it will ultimately fail.
“Why are stakeholders not engaged during beneficiary selection, contrary to World Bank practices?”, Bello queried.
KACRAN through the National President restated its commitment to ending the sharp practices and urged L-PRES management to engage stakeholders in beneficiary selection in all implementing states.
Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Program is a 6-year World Bank intervention program launched in Abuja in 2017 aimed at improving livestock productivity, resilience, and commercialization of value chains, as well as strengthening the country’s response to crises.
