Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has constituted a monitoring team to oversee the payment of compensation to land owners affected by the acquisition of lands on the first segment of Ibadan circular road.
Makinde made this announcement on Tuesday.
DAILY POST reports that some houses and lands have been either demolished or marked for demolition in the ongoing construction of the Ibadan circular road.
Some residents whose properties were affected by the constriction, had a few weeks ago staged protests against the demolition.
However, the Governor contained in a letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Olanike Adeyemo, announced that a committee has been set up to ensure everyone is compensated.
The letter indicated that the monitoring team is to be headed by the Executive Assistant on Security to the Governor, Sunday Odukoya.
Other members of the committee according to the letter included the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatubosun, SSA Broadcast Media to the governor, Bosede Sadiq, Mr A.O. Kolapo and Mr S.O.A. Olatunde.
The statement said the monitoring team’s terms of reference include the verification of the list of would-be beneficiaries submitted by the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development.
The committee is to ensure the payment of the compensation is made to the right people.
