Calabar in darkness over electricity pole destruction by windstorm

Some parts of Calabar, Cross River State, have been plunged into darkness due to the destruction of electricity poles by a windstorm.

The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company confirmed the development in a statement on Sunday.

The Disco blamed the power supply disruption experienced in parts of the state capital to a windstorm.

Areas affected are Bao Yao Iron and Steel, OLAM, Niger Mill, EPZ complex, MCC, Federal Housing, 8 Miles, Unical, Amika, Transcorp, EPZ 1, Essien Town, Leopard, and Diamond in Calabar Cross River State.

“We wish to inform our esteemed customers in Calabar that the outage currently experienced is a result of a heavy wind storm that damaged many poles in our network,“ the Disco said.

Recall that on Sunday, the Transmission Company of Nigeria blamed the outage in Lokoja, Kogi State, for the Vandalization of Lokoja-Gwagwalada 330 kilovolt transmission line 1.

Nigeria has continued to suffer from multiple national grid collapses in the last months.

In this year alone, the country has experienced at least 12 national grid collapses, impacting the economy negatively.
