Imo Police Commissioner visits explosion site, vows to bring perpetrators to book

The Imo State Police Commissioner has visited International Market Orlu LGA Imo State following a bomb explosion which claimed two lives

Confirming the site inspection, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, of the command ASP, Henry Okoye in a press statement informed that the Police Commissioner said the command must get to the root of the incident.

The police spokesperson revealed that the explosion took place Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at approximately 12:40hrs which claimed the life of two young men who the police suspected to be among those that masterminded the explosion.

He stated that the suspects died in the process of carrying out the act which he stated turned against them.

According to the police spokesperson, two passersby were injured in the blast and were promptly taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

ASP, Okoye further revealed that preliminary investigations suggested that the two deceased individuals may have been involved in earlier IED explosions in the Omuma and Orlu communities on November 3, 2024, which resulted in injuries to two citizens.

He further stated that investigations are still ongoing to confirm their involvement in the incidents.

“In response to the explosion, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, visited the scene with EOD operatives for an on-the-spot assessment. He expressed sympathy to the injured victims and wished them a swift recovery reassuring residents that the area had been cleared of any remaining IEDs and that enhanced security measures are now in place to prevent future incidents” he stated.

The police commissioner according to the PPRO has ”urged the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious items or individuals observed in their vicinity to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency line 0803 477 3600”.

He assured the community that the police would continue their investigation to bring all those responsible for the attack to justice.
