Reps committee tasks FCT Judiciary on fairness, accountability, begins oversight visits

The House of Representatives Committee on Federal Capital Territory Judiciary has tasked officers at the third tier of government in the nation’s capital on fairness and accountability.

The Chairman, House Committee on FCT Judiciary, Adamu Ibrahim Gamawa who made this known during the meeting with the members of the committee in Abuja, said justice delayed is justice denied.

He stressed the need for efficiency and effectiveness in the administration of justice.

Gamawa was recently appointed as the Chairman of the House Committee on FCT Judiciary by the Speaker, Abbas Tajudeen PhD.

He noted that with the adoption of the work plan by the committee members during the meeting, they will proceed on oversight visits to courts and other agencies.

Gamawa said the purpose of the oversight as enshrined in the constitution is to allow the legislators know the level of progress, the challenges and possible ways of addressing the problems for better performance.

He said if the FCT Judiciary is on the right track, noting its progress will extend to other states in the country.

He called on relevant stakeholders in the judiciary to work together towards achieving the desired result.
