The Benue State Government has rescued two children from Ukum and one from Katsina-Ala local government areas who were trafficked to Benin in Edo State.
This was disclosed on Thursday by the chairman of Ukum Local Government Area, Jonathan Modi.
He said the children who were trafficked to Benin were subjected to severe hardship and forced labour.
Modi said he was alerted to the situation by his security secretary, Aku T. Enoch, who promptly coordinated with security operatives.
He said through their combined efforts, the traffickers were apprehended by security agencies.
The trafficked children were identified as Favour Shidoo Mngerior Fan Adure, Mecivir Kume Jessica (from Mbayingo Shitile Katsina-Ala local Government) and Joy Dooyum Fan Adure.
Modi, who was represented by his deputy, Ivasekwan, received the rescued children in Makurdi.
While addressing parents, Ivasekwan admonished them to be vigilant when entrusting their children to others, emphasising the growing issue of individuals trafficking children for financial gain.
The parents of the victims expressed their deep gratitude to Jonathan Modi for his swift and decisive action, pledging to follow his advice to safeguard their children in the future.
