Kaduna council polls: Stakeholders call for peaceful elections

The Network of Peace Journalists (NPJ), in collaboration with the Conflict Mitigation and Management Regional Council (CMMRC) and Community Peace Observers (CPO), has urged for peaceful elections in all 23 local government areas in the state.

Ibrahima Yakubu, team leader of the NPJ, in a statement, stressed the importance of unity among all stakeholders to ensure a peaceful electoral process in all parts of the state.

According to him, “politicians should collaborate with civil society organizations to promote peace and unity, as well as encourage citizens to actively participate by voting for credible candidates.”

The statement also called on the youths to reject violence, thuggery, and any misconduct before, during and after the elections in order to ensure a peaceful atmosphere in the state.

The statement urged religious leaders to engage in ongoing prayers for peaceful elections and stressed the need to protect journalists during the critical period.

The group cautioned citizens against relying on unofficial election results circulating on social media and called on the Electoral Commission to ensure the prompt delivery of voting materials to polling units.

The stakeholders urged citizens to act patriotically by rejecting vote-buying and the involvement of underage individuals in campaigns and elections.
