AFCON 2025 qualifier: ‘Naija spirit can’t be broken’ – Troost-Ekong hails Super Eagles

The captain of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, William Troost-Ekong, has declared that he is proud of the current team because the ‘Naija spirit can’t be broken.’

The former Watford defender said this after the Super Eagles returned to Nigeria following their ordeal in Libya.

Troost-Ekong and his teammates were stranded for over 15 hours at the Al Abaq Airport in Libya following their arrival in the North African country on Sunday.

The Super Eagles were scheduled for a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, qualifying matchday four encounter against the Mediterranean Knights on Tuesday night.

As a result of their ordeal, Austin Eguavoen’s men decided to boycott the game.

“BACK HOME SAFE & SOUND. Proud of this team, NAIJA SPIRIT can’t be broken,” Troost-Ekong tweeted.

“Throw at us what you want, it’s in our blood to overcome. I’ve seen a lot in my 10 years with this group, but nothing like this, an experience that has brought us even closer together.”
