SDP chides Ajulo for supporting finance Commissioner’s snub of Ondo Assembly

The Social Democratic Party, SDP, Ondo State chapter, has berated the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the state, Kayode Ajulo, over his stance on the failure of the Commissioner for Finance, Mrs Omowumi Isaac, to honour the summons of the State House of Assembly.

According to SDP, Ajulo ought to have focused on his duty as the legal officer of the state instead of turning to the spokesperson of the Finance Commissioner.

The Commissioner of Finance had a few days ago failed to honour the invite of the lawmakers who had summoned her to explain the grey areas of the 2024 supplementary budget.

The legislators who were infuriated by the development threatened to issue a bench warrant against her.

Following the development, Ajulo disclosed that the Commissioner for Finance had gone on official duty, hence her inability to honour the invitation but sent the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary instead.

The SDP, in a statement by its publicity secretary, Oyeniyi Iwakun, said, “The Attorney General’s statement, filled with excuses and political platitudes, undermines the principle of separation of powers and legislative oversight.

“A summons by the House of Assembly is not a mere invitation to be delegated to a Permanent Secretary, regardless of how busy the Commissioner’s schedule may be.

“Since when did the office of the Attorney General become propaganda machinery for the executive branch?

“The people of Ondo State deserve better than a chief legal officer who spends more time crafting political narratives than upholding the rule of law.”
