‘Seek permission before using the National Anthem’ – FG tells Nigerians

The Nigerian Government has told citizens to seek permission before using the country’s national anthem.

The Federal Government stated this through Lanre Issa-Onilu, the Director General of the National Orientation Agency, NOA.

Issa-Onilu, in a statement released on Wednesday, October 8, said it is now compulsory to seek permission before the use of the Nigeria Anthem to avoid misinterpretation.

However, he did not state in what context permission should be sought before the anthem could be used.

“As custodians of Nigeria’s National Symbols, the NOA is tasked with preventing all forms of misuse. The DG emphasised that permission must be sought from the Agency before using the Anthem to avoid misrepresentation,” the statement read.
