Former Manchester United center-back, Rio Ferdinand has admitted that the Red Devils should never have sold Jonny Evans in the past.
According to Ferdinand, Evans was the ‘best defender’ at Man United when he left Old Trafford.
Evans spent close to a decade at Man United during his first spell.
He made 198 appearances and helped United win three Premier League titles.
However, Evans fell out of favour under former Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal.
The 36-year-old was later sold to West Brom for £8 million in 2015.
The Northern Ireland defender was re-signed at the age of 35 in the summer of 2023.
“He should have had another 12 years at Manchester United,” Ferdinand said of Evans on his YouTube channel.
“As soon as they sold him I said, “wow, who’s sanctioned this? How can you let him go?” He is arguably your best defender there.
“He was experienced as well, he had more experience than Phil Jones and Chris Smalling. You can’t let him go.
“He understands the fabric of the club. If you want to keep a culture at a club you need players who understand it and have been there. He’s one of them.”
