Bills establishing Federal Universities Ilaro, Kachia pass third reading

A bill to establish the Federal University of Technology, Ilaro, in Ogun State, and the Federal University of Allied Sciences, Kachia, in Kaduna State, passed third reading on Tuesday.

The passage of both bills by the Senate followed the consideration of a report presented for that purpose by its Committee on Tertiary Education and TETFUND.

As contained in the report presented by the Chairman of the Committee, Senator Dandutse Mohammed, representing Katsina South, the establishment bill for the Federal University of Technology, Ilaro, is predicated on upgrading the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, to a Federal University of Technology.

Senator Solomon Adeola, representing Ogun West Senatorial District, sponsored the bill, which was first considered in the 9th Senate but did not see the light of day.

The Senate approved the recommendation of the committee for the change of location of the Federal University of Allied Sciences from Manchok, as earlier proposed by the bill’s sponsor, Senator Sunday Katung (PDP, Kaduna South), to Kachia.
