Galadima emerges Chairman as Nasarawa State Football Association gets new board

A new leadership board for the Nasarawa State Football Association has been elected, with Usman Salisu Galadima, popularly known as ‘Basira,’ emerging as the board’s Chairman.

The election results were announced by the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Barr. Haruna Favour Iliyasu, at the Keffi Local Government Area Secretariat, where the election took place on Saturday.

Galadima secured 12 votes out of 18, defeating his closest rival, Haliru Ibrahim, known as ‘Zee,’ who received four votes. Two votes were considered invalid due to additional or surplus entries by voters on the ballot sheets.

Ibrahim Adamu Shigafarta was elected Vice Chairman, garnering 16 votes against Aliyu Zanwa. This outcome was based on the interpretation that Zanwa and the new Chairman hailed from the same zone.

Three other members, Nuhu Abdulhamid, Ismaila Agah, and Bashir Ibrahim, were elected unopposed, representing Akwanga Zone. Nasir Na’Ali and Abubakar Gambo from the Lafia Zone, as well as Segun Akeusola and Matthew Dodo from the Keffi Zone, secured victory in their respective positions.

The oath of office was administered to the new Board Members by Barr. Abdullahi Bello of the Court of Appeal, Abuja.

Galadima, in his post-inauguration speech, expressed his optimism for football development in the state.

He thanked those who supported his victory and extended an olive hand to those who lost, stating his commitment to the growth and development of football in Nasarawa State.

Chief Barr. Isaac Danladi, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, represented the state government and congratulated the new Chairman, the Board members, and all the contestants. He encouraged both winners and losers to work together for the development of football in the state.

The representative of the Nigeria Football Federation’s President, Rabiu Inuwa Ahlan, praised the transparency and success of the election process. He reiterated the commitment to work with the Nasarawa State Football Association to develop grassroots football and provide opportunities for young talents.

Hon. Aliyu Bello had, prior to the dissolution of the normalization committee, expressed his gratitude to the leadership of the NFF for entrusting the committee with the responsibility of coordinating the election process. He reaffirmed the continued support from the committee to the new leadership of the State Football Association.

The Usman Salisu Galadima-led Nasarawa State Football Association’s Board will serve a four-year term.

Several dignitaries were present at the election event, including former Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development in Nasarawa State, Hon. Othman Bala Adam, and Hon. Yarus Dagusa, Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nasarawa State, among others.
