Two persons, Lekan Abiola and Timileyin Olaniyan, were on Friday arraigned in an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, for allegedly impersonating naval officers.
The defendants, Abiola, 28 and Olaniyan, 28, of no fixed addresses, were charged with conspiracy and unlawfully parading as military officers.
The duo pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Earlier, the prosecutor, ASP Anthony Igori, informed the court that the defendants committed the offences on September 21, at about 12 noon, at World Best Hotel, Muslim area of Ibadan.
Igori said the defendants wore military camouflage trousers and were in possession of the ID cards of the Nigerian Navy.
Igori said the defendants were also in possession of AK 47 live ammunition, electric pistol, knives, among other dangerous weapons, with the intent to commit felony.
He said the offences contravened Sections 109 and 430 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Mr Olaolu Olanipekun granted the defendants bail in the sum of N200, 000 each with one surety each in like sum and then adjourned the case until December 4, for hearing.
