Kogi State govt suspends all mining activities

The Kogi State Government says it has suspended all mining activities in the state due to the influx of bandits and negative elements in all mining-related activities.

The decision to suspend mining activities according to the Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Bashiru Gegu was reached at the State Executive Council meeting presided over by the Kogi State Gov Usman Ahmed Ododo.

In an interview with journalists after the State Executive Council, Gegu said the ministry will start the profiling of Legal Mining Companies in the state.

According to the Commissioner, ” This is to enable the State to have genuine Mining Data”.

“A total clean up of the sector will go a long way in minimizing or eradicating criminalities in totality”.

“The state will work in accordance with the rules of the games and will collaborate with the Federal Mines Officers and the Security Agencies.

“The State will not condone any form of infiltration or illegal mining activities. We implore all the Mining Companies to bear with the State in these circumstances because we must curb insecurity”.
