Independence Day: Remain impartial, punish electoral ‘robbers’ – Ighodalo tells judiciary

As Nigeria celebrates 64 years of nationhood, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate in the last Saturday’s governorship poll in Edo State, Asue Ighodalo has urged the judiciary to remain impartial and punish those responsible for irregularities in the election.

Ighodalo made the call in his Independence Day message to the people of the state.

The statement was issued by the Team Asue Media Organisation (TAMO) and signed by Erhabor Emokpae in Benin City on Tuesday

The PDP governorship candidate also urged Nigerians to remain undaunted despite the numerous challenges facing the country since the attainment of independence from Great Britain in 1960.

He said the judiciary should remain steadfast and impartial as it prepares to address what he described as the most brazen electoral heist in Nigeria’s democratic history since 1999.

“As we celebrate the 64th Independence Anniversary of our great nation, I stand before you with a heavy heart but unyielding resolve. This year’s celebration is marked by recent events that have left many disheartened.

“The unprecedented electoral heist we witnessed is a stark reminder of the struggles our forefathers faced for the rights and freedoms we hold dear today.

“To my supporters in Edo State and across the nation, I urge you to stay the course. Our journey toward a flourishing Edo and a better Nigeria is far from over.

“Every challenge we encounter is merely a stepping stone toward the realization of our dreams for a fair, just, and equitable society.

“Let us not be deterred by the shadows cast upon our collective aspirations. Instead, let us unite under the banner of integrity, resilience, and the unwavering belief that the will of the people must prevail

“As we reflect on the sacrifices made for our independence, let us also renew our commitment to ensuring that our democracy flourishes.

“Together, we shall forge a path toward a brighter future for Edo State and all of Nigeria. In unity and determination, we will rise,” he said.
