Adamawa: Gov Fintiri pardons 2 correctional centre inmates

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has pardoned two inmates of correctional centres in Adamawa State.

The pardon is exercised according to the governor’s constitutional powers in honour of Nigeria’s 64th independence celebration.

A statement sent to journalists on Monday evening by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, said the two inmates were at the Yola Old Medium Security Custodial Centre and Medium Security Custodial Centre in Jada, respectively.

According to Wonosikou, the beneficiaries are Chai Yerima and Mohammed Bapeto.

He said the decision for the pardon resulted from a recommendation of the state’s Council on the Prerogative of Mercy, in accordance with Section 212 (1)(d) of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria.

“Their remaining sentences have been fully remitted, and the governor has ordered their immediate release,” Wonosikou stated.

He quoted the governor as urging the pardoned inmates to use the opportunity of their freedom to reform, become law-abiding citizens, and contribute positively to society.
