The Zamfara State Sector Command of the Federal Roads Safety Corps, FRSC, has demanded collaboration with the State Fire Service.
The demand was made by state FRSC sector commandant, Umar Massaudu, during a courtesy visit to the director of the Zamfara State Fire Service Board, Abdullahi Jibbo, in Gusau, the state capital.
According to the FRSC sector commandant, part of the reason behind the visit was to establish collaboration on training and retraining of FRSC personnel on firefighting for effective rescue of accident victims.
Massaudu further stated that sometimes road crashes involve fire outbreaks, and the personnel would be helpless because of a lack of skills to operate firefighting tools. He appealed to the State Fire Service to help the corps with fire extinguishers and other firefighting tools.
The sector commandant further solicited the support of the Emir of Gusau, Alhaji Ibrahim Bello, on public enlightenment.
“We are appealing to you to talk to road users and the general public to be safety conscious on the roads always,” he said.
Responding, the director of Zamfara State Fire Service, Abdulahi Jibbo, assured that he would grant the request and give total support and cooperation to the FRSC command.
“We are very ready to provide you with the necessary fire-preventive tools and mechanisms.
“When FRSC personnel can effectively fight fire during accidents, more lives and property will be saved in the event of crashes,” he said.
