Osun govt working on new minimum wage implementation – Gov Adeleke

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has revealed that his administration is currently working on the implementation of a new minimum wage for civil servants in the state.

Governor Adeleke disclosed this on Saturday during the grand finale of the 14th convocation ceremony of Osun State University, held at the institution’s main campus in Osogbo.

Adeleke also revealed that his government is addressing the challenges posed by the removal of fuel subsidies, which have placed additional burdens on workers.

He assured government employees that steps were being taken to cushion the effects, including plans for the new minimum wage.

He said, “We are working on the modalities for the implementation of the newly approved minimum wage. This is part of our commitment to mitigating the impact of recent economic changes on workers in the state.”

The governor also reiterated his administration’s commitment to the growth of Osun State University, noting that various initiatives had been implemented to support the institution.

Among these efforts, Adeleke mentioned the completion of an office complex at the Isale-Osun campus to facilitate the university’s health program accreditations.

“We have also supported the university towards the construction of its ultra-modern Anatomy Complex which we commissioned earlier today.

“We have also prioritised the construction of roads leading to the student area at Sasha Market and other campuses of our University.

“We paid a year’s arrears promptly to the staff members. We have also paid palliative allowances to all workers, and we are currently working on the modalities for the implementation of the newly approved minimum wage,” he said.

Governor Adeleke urged the university staff and students to maintain peace and focus on contributing positively to the institution’s development, while advising parents and guardians to continue supporting their children as they transition to new stages in life.

He said, “The progress of this citadel of learning can only be sustained through a peaceful and harmonious environment. Let us avoid unnecessary rancour and acrimony. Instead, focus on the common goal of advancing this great institution.

“To the parents and guardians gathered here today, I urge you not to completely let go of your children as they step into the next phase of their lives.”

Speaking earlier, the Vice Chancellor of Osun State University, Prof. Clement Adebooye, expressed confidence that the graduates were well-prepared to contribute to the nation’s public service, economy, and global workforce.
