The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has raised an alarm that the National Officers Committee (NOC) is planning to impose an illegal State Executive Council (SEC) in Kogi State.
This was contained in a communiqué of the NMA Kogi State branch after an emergency general meeting, signed by its Chairman, Dr. Abubakar Alhassan, and Secretary, Adaranijo Rasheed Kolapo, on Friday.
The association faulted the latest letter from the Secretary-General of the national body, Benjamin Egbo, dated 13th September 2024, recognizing the duo of Dr. Aazee Jimoh and Dr. Daniels Sebastine Tunde as Chairman and Secretary in the state.
The communiqué reads in part: “The Emergency General Meeting (EGM) of the State Executive Council (SEC) of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Kogi State branch held today in Lokoja to address the state of the association, especially regarding the continuous meddling of the NOC in the internal affairs of the branch, resolved as follows:
“That the general public, particularly the offices copied in the letter, should discountenance the correspondence because the Secretary-General, including the National Officers Committee (NOC), overreached themselves in the letter.
“The NOC acted outside their jurisdiction and are doing everything possible to impose an illegal SOC on the congress of the NMA Kogi State branch.
“The State Officers Committee (SOC) should continue to provide the needed leadership in line with the NEC position at the Maiduguri NEC meeting of August 2024.
“The State Officers Committee (SOC) should schedule, in the coming days, a statutory State Executive Council (SEC) meeting of the NMA Kogi State branch to respond more appropriately to the letter and the issues raised therein.”
It was learned that the NMA Kogi State branch meeting had in attendance members of the State Executive Council (SEC), including the State Officers Committee (SOC), affiliate heads, and past chairmen.
DAILY POST recalls that the immediate past Chairman of the NMA in Kogi State was impeached from office alongside some executives over allegations of corruption, misappropriation of funds, and abuse of office.
