The Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof Abayomi Arigbabu, has charged teachers to broaden their understanding of modern methodology to better instruct students and improve teaching and learning across the state.
Arigbabu gave the charge during day two of the First Term Pre-Resumption Stakeholders Meeting for the 2024/2025 academic session with teachers and private school owners at Lisabi Grammar School, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta.
He added that teachers should be prepared, focused, and committed to making sure that their classes are interactive and interesting to learners.
Arigbabu hinted that the ministry is working towards collaborating with the Ministry of Agriculture and soilless farmers to encourage farming in schools across the state as a means of generating funds for school maintenance.
He reiterated that woodwork would be included in the school curriculum as a compulsory subject to encourage entrepreneurship, thereby securing a livelihood for students after leaving school.
“We are committed to ensuring Ogun State is second to none in terms of education; all hands must be on deck to ensure this is achieved. I wish you happy resumption and a successful term.”
Speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Primary and Secondary Education, Ronke Soyombo, enjoined teachers to be creative and innovative in delivering their lessons, adding that they should also relate well with learners, especially during this economic situation in the country.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Oluwatosin Oloko, advised participants to strictly adhere to government policies and implement the deliberations of the meeting, be diligent, and be role models to learners in their respective schools.
In their separate responses, the Chairmen of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), Oluwaseun Agbesanwa; the Non-Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (NASUSS), Olumide Oduneye; and the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Oladipupo Sewakanu, appreciated the state governor, Dapo Abiodun, for employing new teachers to beef up the teaching force.
