You’ve had an unbelievable run – Ex-Liverpool star tells Ronaldo to retire

Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson has urged Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo to retire from playing football.

Lawrenson wants the Portuguese star to make the decision as early as the end of the current season.

Ronaldo, who now plays for Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr, has continued to show that age is just a number despite inching closer to 40.

He has opened the 2024-25 campaign on an excellent note, scoring four goals and providing two assists in four appearances across all competitions for his club.

His current deal is set to run out next June, and Lawrenson feels the ex-Manchester United man should retire next summer.

The 67-year-old told Paddy Power via GOAL, “Cristiano Ronaldo is still scoring in Saudi Arabia, but would he sign a new contract there? I’m not sure.

“This is when I think he needs a best mate who says, ‘You’ve had an unbelievable run, and maybe at the end of this season, just hang your boots up and let people remember you for what you’ve done.’”
