Rangers forward ,Cyriel Dessers hopes the win against St Johnstone will inspire another Scottish League Cup success this season.
The Gers started their title defence with a comfortable 2-0 victory at the Hampden Park.
Dessers rose from the bench to inspire the win.
The Nigeria international fired Philippe Clement’s side ahead just after the hour mark.
The 29-year-old then set up Ross McCausland to double the lead in the closing stages.
“We had the feeling of winning the League Cup trophy last season and it is an amazing opportunity to win something early in the season. This was the first step, but it is a necessary step.
“It would be a dream to get to another final and win it, so we have to take it step by step and round by round, but this is a good first step.”
