Super Falcons defender Ashleigh Plumptre has revealed the reason for her continued absence from the team.
The Al-Ittihad of Saudi Arabia centre-back has not played for Nigeria since starring at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Questions have been asked about Plumptre’s exclusion by interim head coach Justin Madugu.
The former Leicester City player claimed it was her personal decision not to play for the nine-time African champions for now.
“Yeah, I guess it has been a break. I haven’t been able to go to the upcoming camp, like I said, it’s more of a personal decision while I take care of my body,” Plumptre said in an interview with Nigeria Football.
“But ultimately, I want to be fun with the team. It’s a privilege. And I want to be in the best physical condition to be able to go and compete in important games.”
She has made 15 appearances for the Super Falcons.
