The Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, UNIBEN, Professor Lilian Salami, has set up a committee to investigate the alleged sexual harassment levelled against a professor in the Faculty of Arts.
DAILY POST reports that the secretary of the investigating committee, Barrister B.D. Jonathan, disclosed this in a circular in Benin City.
The circular disclosed that the suspected professor is from the Department of Philosophy.
The committee urged staff and students of the institution to provide relevant information and personal experience of any incident related to the allegation.
Jonathan opined that availing the committee with relevant information would help it actualise its mandate as well as carry out thorough and fair investigations.
He assured the staff and students that their identity would be protected, and all information would be treated with the utmost confidentiality.
DAILY POST learnt that the management of the institution
decided to constitute the committee after a graduate of the school reportedly took to social media and called out the lecture.
The university alumnus alleged that she suffered untold sexual harassment from the said professor during her undergraduate studies.
