Flood displaces 1,664 persons in four Sokoto communities

About 1,664 persons have been displaced as flood ravaged four communities in Gada Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

A statement issued by the Information Officer, Sokoto Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, Abdullahi Ghani, explained that the flood followed a recent heavy downpour in the area.

According to Ghani, the flood which followed a heavy downpour on July 17, 2024, also destroyed several hectares of farmland.

He added that a large number of livestock, particularly sheep and goats, were killed in the incident.

Communities affected by the flood include Dantudu, Balakozo, Gidan Tudu and Tsite, among others.

The SEMA spokesman disclosed that in Dan Tudu village, 62 houses and 71 households were affected, while 33 houses and 48 households were affected in Balakozo village (Tsitse Ward),

Similarly, the statement noted that in Gidan Tudu village, a total of 38 houses and 52 households were affected by the incident.

“At Tsitse town, a total of 68 houses and 89 households were also affected, while the total number of people affected by the flood at Dan Tudu, Balakozo, Gidan Tudu and Trait town is 1,664.”
