Group decries poor state of facilities at GSS Agwada, urges Nasarawa Speaker to intervene

A sociocultural group in Nasarawa State, Afo Youth Mobility (AYM), has raised concerns over the deplorable state of facilities at the Government Secondary School (GSS), Agwada.

The group in a statement issued on Saturday morning by its chairman, Barrister Dauda Kana, called on the Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Mr. Danladi Jatau, to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to revive the state-owned boarding school.

AYM pointed out that GSS Agwada, the only public secondary school accessible to underprivileged children in Agwada, Kokona Local Government Area, has significantly deteriorated.

“The school, having lost its original infrastructure to the establishment of Command Secondary School, Agwada, has been relegated to makeshift structures with inadequate facilities.

“Students are compelled to endure substandard living conditions, including dilapidated hostels, lack of functional toilets, and a deficient cooking system,” the statement read in part.

AYM stated that the poor academic environment has led to a drastic reduction in enrollment and a diminishing quality of education for the community’s youth.

They also warned of serious health risks due to unsanitary conditions, which could lead to outbreaks of diseases such as cholera and diarrhea.

“It is with utmost urgency that Afo Youth Mobility implores Hon. Danladi Jatau to collaborate with relevant stakeholders within Kokona and the Nasarawa State Government to intervene and revitalize Government Secondary School, Agwada.

“This institution holds profound significance as a beacon of hope for aspiring students who lack the means to access education elsewhere,” the group further stated.

AYM reminded Hon. Danladi Jatau of his campaign commitment to prioritize education, a fundamental right that should not be denied to any child in the community.

“Ignoring this commitment risks losing the collective support of the Afo Nation, who place high premium on the education of their wards and children,” AYM warned.

Afo Youth Mobility reaffirmed its unwavering support for initiatives that uplift the community and empower youth through accessible education.

They stressed that Hon Danladi Jatau must act swiftly and decisively to address this critical issue to secure a brighter future for all residents of Afo Nation in the Agwada Development Area.
