Commuters, motorists lament as fuel pump price surges in Ogun

Commuters in Abeokuta, Ogun State, have lamented the hike in transport fare by motorists following the surge of the petrol pump price from N630 to N730 per litre.

They expressed dissatisfaction over the fact that locations that were previously charged N500 are now charged N800, and others that were charged N700 now cost N1,000.

A student, Blessing Ayomide, said, “From Saje junction to OPIC at Oke Ilewo on bike was N500 but today I entered bike for N1,000. This is not fair.

“I had already budgeted my movement before leaving home but now everything is scattered.”

Also complaining about the situation, Favour, a POS operator, said, “This country is getting harder by the day, I spent N800 on bike this morning on my way to my shop from inside Magbon to Iwe Iroyin, it is usually N500 but they said there is no fuel so the price have gone up.”

Our correspondent reports that while independent filling stations like Lado Oil in Ijemo, Rab Dev Company LTD in Adigbe and Armor, among others, were closed, the likes of MRS at Isale Igbein sold for N630 per litre, while Joke filling station at Kemta, KH Tetra and Oyinkansola at Panseke are selling for N730.

Our correspondent also reports that a long queue was sighted at NNPC as they sell at N580.

Some motorists however said that they arrived at the petrol station as early as 6:30 am.

An okada rider simply identified as Nurudeen lamented that he had been at NNPC fuel station, Onikolobo, since 7:00 am and by 9:43 am they stopped selling.

“See, I have been here since 7:00 am, I met a very long queue but as you can see this is 9:43 am and they said they are not selling again, they said the fuel is finished.”

Kanji, a pump attendant at Oyinkansola filling station along Panseke road, told our correspondent that while they were selling for N700 per litre last week, they are now selling N730 per litre on Tuesday.
