Police in Kano State have uncovered a new strategy employed by hoodlums to rob tricycle owners of their belongings.
Spokesman of the command, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement issued to DAILY POST.
He said part of the new strategy included offering the tricycle owner a drink and robbing him when he fell unconscious.
According to the statement: “Friday at about 22: 30hrs, one Basiru A. Husseini, 25, of Satame village via Makoda LGA, Kano State, reported at Kazaure Division that on the same date at about 22: 00hrs four unknown persons boarded his tricycle (Keke NAPEP) at Kazaure town and offered him Zobo drink, as a result, he fell unconscious and the hoodlums carted away his tricycle valued at N380,000, two handsets, Infinix Smart 8, valued at N110,000, Vivo, valued at N12,000 and the sum of N92,600.”
He said upon receiving the report, all nearby divisions and security checkpoints along the highways were informed.
Kiyawa said police in Daura were able to intercept the aforementioned tricycle along with the offenders, transferring them to the Kazaure Division for further investigation.
He explained that upon interrogation at Kazaure Division, the suspects were identified as Usman Dahiru of Fege Quarters, Abubakar Aliyu of Kusugu Quarters, both in Daura LGA and Suleiman Kabir of Mani LGA and Yusuf Mohammed of Daura who is now at large, both from Katsina State.
The police spokesman said following an in-depth investigation, the suspects later confessed to the commission of the offence.
