Italy Head Coach Luciano Spalletti has criticised Jorginho, saying there was no need to play the Arsenal midfielder.
The coach was not happy with the player’s performance in Italy’s Euro 2024 defeat to Spain on Thursday.
Jorginho struggled in the game and only saw 45 minutes of play in the 1-0 defeat.
The Arsenal star remains one of the first names on the team sheet for Italy following his outstanding performance in Euro 2020.
Spalletti, a former Napoli boss, was having none of Jorginho’s poor showing as he hauled off the player at the half-time interval, introducing Bryan Cristante.
He later told Sky Italia that there was no point in playing the Arsenal man.
“He must come and get the ball, otherwise there’s no point in him playing,” he said.
The former Chelsea midfielder failed to make himself available for his teammates in the first phase of play, angering his coach.
