US: Joe Biden reveals plan to streamline immigrants residency status

President Joe Biden of the United States, US, on Thursday unveiled his administration’s plan for immigrants obtaining residency.

Biden said his administration is working on streamlining the process of immigrants married to Americans to obtain legal status.

He disclosed that the streamline process will make it easier for immigrants who have lived for 10 years in the US to file their paper work.

Posting on his X page, Biden wrote: “My Administration is acting to streamline the process for obtaining legal status for immigrants married to U.S. citizens who have lived here for a decade or longer.

“Now, they can file their paperwork in the U.S. and work while they wait. This is about keeping families together.”

However, reports have it that the Administration officials estimate that roughly 500,000 unauthorized immigrants with US citizen spouses will qualify for the Parole in Place program.

Applicants must have been legally married to their American citizen spouse by June 17.

Those who are deemed to pose a threat to national security or public safety will not qualify.

The Department of Homeland Security policy, known as “Parole in Place,” had said it will allow immigrants to apply for work permits and deportation protections if they have lived in the US for at least 10 years and meet.

The program still requires undocumented spouses to file necessary paperwork and pass a criminal background check and doesn’t apply to future migrants.
