Euro 2024: Portugal captain, Ronaldo makes record sixth appearance

Portugal captain, Cristiano Ronaldo, on Tuesday became the first player to feature in six European Championships.

The 39-year-old started for his country in their 2-1 win over Czech Republic.

First appearing in Portugal’s squad in 2004, Ronaldo made his Euro debut on home soil, scoring his first goal in the tournament against Czechia.

Now, 20 years later, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner faced the same team in their opening fixture of this year’s championship.

Since his debut, Ronaldo has played in every subsequent Portugal team since – 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020 (played in 2021 due to COVID-19) and now 2024.

With 14 Euros goals, the Al-Nassr superstar also holds the record for the most goals by any player in the history of the competition.
