Euro 2024: Rooney, Cole decry exclusion of Grealish, Branthwaite from England squad

Former England internationals, Wayne Rooney and Joe Cole, have named two players that should have been included in manager Gareth Southgate’s final 26-man squad for the upcoming European Championships this month.

The two players are Manchester City’s Jack Grealish and Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite.

The Euro 2024 tournament kicks off next week in Germany.

Southgate recently announced his squad for Euro 2026, with several top players missing, including Grealish, Branthwaite, Harry Maguire and James Maddison.

“Maguire has been a stalwart, he’s had an injury. That’s what Gareth’s had to wrestle with,” Cole said on Channel 4.

“Grealish coming out of the squad surprised me. He’s been such a focal point for so many years. Gareth thinks other players in his position are performing better.”
