Edo: Four killed in fresh cult war

No fewer than four persons have been reportedly killed in renewed cult clashes in Edo State.

DAILY POST gathered that the killings took place in Benin City and Auchi, in the course of a supremacy battle among different cult groups in the state.

It was gathered that one of the deceased, a student of Auchi Polytechnic, was killed at Campus One Gate while others were killed at different locations in Benin metropolis.

It was further gathered that two of the deceased were killed on Thursday in Ogheghe area on the Benin-Sapele road while the fourth was killed at Ikpoba Slope along Akpakpava Road in the early hours of last week Friday.

A source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the two persons that were killed last Thursday were trailed to the area by members of a rival cult group.

He said on sighting the duo, the rival group immediately opened fire, killing them on the spot.

The one killed at Ikpoba Slope along Akpakpava Road was said to have been shot on the head by his assailants while waiting to board a vehicle.

DAILY POST also learnt that the renewed cult clashes followed reprisal attacks by rival cult groups whose members were killed during the previous cult war in the state.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, Chidi Nwabuzor, who confirmed the incident, said, the Command was making efforts to arrest those involved in the killings.
