Zamfara constituents notify Reps of decision to recall federal lawmaker

Constituents of Kauru Namoda/Birnin Magaji Federal Constituency, Zamfara State, have taken further steps in their decision to recall their representative, Aminu Sani Jaji.

DAILY POST reported that the constituents had commenced the mobilisation of registered voters’ signatures in the two local government areas to initiate the recall process of Sani Jaji.

The constituents followed that up by notifying the chairman of INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, of their resolve to recall the lawmaker.

And now, they have taken further action by notifying the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, of their resolve and determination to recall Jaji immediately.

The lawmaker, according to his constituents, is being recalled on the ground of poor performance, gross negligence of the people since his election in 2023 and divisive politics in the state, which according to them, has worsened the plights of the people.

The letter to the Speaker of the House of Representatives was submitted on May 22, 2024, and was duly stamped and acknowledged by his office.

Voters in the constituency were said to have trooped out en masse to put their signatures to the letter for his recall to be submitted to INEC for verification and subsequent conduct of a referendum for his recall.

“It has become necessary to hold elected public officers accountable if we must deepen democracy in Nigeria,” Bello Mahmud Birnin Magaji,

chairman of the aggrieved members of the constituency and Mustapha Ibrahim, their

secretary, said in a statement.

“Henceforth, constituents will summon all elected officers in the area to give account of their stewardship as sovereignty resides in the people.

“This is to avoid our blunder and miscalculation in electing Jaji.”
