The Borno State Police Command said it arrested 25 suspects for alleged drug peddling and substance abuse in Maiduguri.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Daso Nahum, who confirmed the arrest on Monday in Maiduguri, said operatives of the command apprehended the suspects during raids at various locations in the Maiduguri metropolis.
According to him, the command recovered a large quantity of illicit substances and weapons from the suspects.
“On May 22, a police patrol team, during a stop-and-search operation at Jiddari area, Old GRA, Maiduguri, arrested a notorious suspected drug peddler,” he said.
The police spokesman further disclosed that the suspect (name withheld) was allegedly conveying Tramadol capsules concealed in two sacks.
The police, he said, also arrested two accomplices of the prime suspect when they offered a N400,000 bribe to secure his release.
“The Divisional Police Officer instantly rejected the money, arrested the suspects and transferred them to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation,” SP Nahum disclosed.
